Abortion is a complex issue. Since it's a complex issue, many people think, and communicate, poorly about it. Here is a short list of those ways:
- They don't give any reasons for what they say: they just assert conclusions on the topic, like "Abortion is murder."
- More fundamentally, probably some people simply have no reasons for their views here.
- Often when people give reasons, they give reasons that just assume their conclusions: this is called "begging the question." For example, assuming that everything medical professionals do must be not wrong, and so thinking that calling abortion "healthcare" proves that it's always not wrong.
- People often do not realize that many key terms about this issue need defining since there are multiple legitimate meanings: e.g. "life" and "human."
- Sometimes when people know about these different meanings, they think these meanings are the result of some kind of pro-abortion conspiracy. No, this is idiotic. For example, there are legitimate, abortion-issue-independent reasons to think that "person" does not mean "human being" and the people and bodies are not the same thing.
- Much of the above is due to people not making any effort to study issues: they don't take classes, they don't read textbooks: they make no effort to seriously learn.
- Related to (6), many people have no accurate clue what people who disagree with them actually think and why. This is due to people not being curious and reflective and asking people what they mean by key terms (e.g., "human," "humans," "a human," "human being," etc. They don't ask people what they mean because they don't know that, very often, they should and they just don't know much about these issues.
